Acupuncture Xi Cleft Points

By Elizabeth Reninger, About.com

What Is The Function Of Xi-Cleft Points?

The Acupuncture Xi-Cleft Points are the places along a meridian’s path where qi and blood pool – in the same way that water might pool in a small cleft (and hence, their name). All of the main meridians, as well as four of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians, have Qi Cleft points, most of which are found at or near the body’s joints. Clinically, Xi Cleft points are used primarily in the case of acute conditions, e.g. to disperse excess heat or swelling or pain in the associated meridian or organ. Along with the Yuan Source Points and the Luo Connecting Points, the Xi Cleft Points are among the most important, powerful and frequently used of acupuncture points.
