De (Te)

By Elizabeth Reninger, About.com

Definition: The power or virtue that a Taoist practitioner attains, as they align themselves with the rhythms of the Tao, and in so doing, perfect their character. De (Te) refers to a code of conduct or way or life characterized by moral integrity, honor, kindness, graciousness, and benevolence. It also refers to the fruits of these actions: the blessings (e.g. of power and wisdom) and good fortune that manifest when our personal intentions or life-purpose are in alignment with the "will of heaven," i.e. the Tao.
