235 Miles Per Gallon!
I know next to nothing about automobiles, but this luge-like creature - scheduled for production by Volkswagon in 2010 - seemed well-worth announcing, as an absolute godsend for our planet's precious and precariously compromised environment.
As EcoGeek's Hank Green writes: "The car's technology comes from it's unique shape and it's ultra-light body. The frame is actually made of magnesium, an extremely light metal, and the outer skin is reinforced with carbon fiber. The one cylinder engine is made of aluminum and sits on top of the rear axle. The car is only a bit more than three feet high and weighs less than 700 lbs."
Since it only seats (a very cozy) two people - arranged front to back as though you actually were Olympic bobsledders - and reaches a maximum speed of 75 mph, it's not going to be the best choice for everyone. But if even a modest percentage of auto-owners chose to drive these instead of more gas-guzzling options, the effects for our planet could be profoundly healing. Spread the word!
What's not in nature's economy,
abandon for integrity.
~ Daode Jing, verse 24
